The main reason I would not use Ubuntu in the past for all my premium rapidshare downloads, was I did not have enough knowledge of the software available. In fact I am still in the dark as to what is out there, so I decided to write a post on my blog UbuntuDan and get educated at the same time. I hope this helps someone.

I was suffering with the Linux version of Raoidshare Manager and before that Tucan. When I had finally discovered the Jdownloader client it was like the direct download world became painless and a pleasure to use. Jdownloader supports hundreds of DDL file storage sites, it organises my downloads into files, extracts my compressed files and deletes them once extracted. I cannot praise the developers of this software enough for the dedication and detail they have put into this application.
If you use Rapidshare, Hotfile, Depositfiles or the hundreds of other file storage sites on the web, do not hesitate to install this software and make your life a whole lot easier. Who needs cable TV when you have software like this!
Tutorial below to help you get it installed! :)
